Excepting February, Which Has But 28

Days, that is. I can't believe they've gone so quickly!

Flipping through this issue of Backstage, I'm getting excited about summer. Summerstock, picnics, al fresco - so many of my favorite things. One of my roommates just got cast in a Broadway show (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) and another got an amazing contract at Goodspeed. This month I got to participate in the Strawhat Auditions and catch up on the Oscar movies. Still haven't seen The Social Network though. I know. Fail. In my defense, though, I WILL be attending a hopping martini+oscars party this Sunday. Can't wait. AND we got our lease renewed at STABILIZED RENT. Guys, this is gonna happen.

For Valentine's Day, I - and many actors I know - celebrated our true love for this crazy career we're pursuing by toasting the little breaks. You know how people always talk about their big break? Well, we're celebrating this little ones right now - the building blocks of a Big Break. Student Film here, off-off-Broadway there, a dash of sketch comedy, a music video spoof, writing a screenplay with other art school alums....this is the stuff dreams are made of. I want to encourage all my fellow artists out there to keep slugging. Our Big Break isn't just one moment in time, it's a culmination and combination of how we conduct our business along the way.

The Improv 101 class at Upright Citizens Brigade was a smashing success. We played to an audience of 12 and had a riotous good time. There is talk of a practice group and world fame in the near-future. I've also had opportunities to continue attending and working at The Actors Studio, and learn something new every time. As a side note: this week I am THRILLED to be doing scene-work with one of my childhood idols...more on that to come.

New Year Resolute!

After a fantastic, life-giving holiday with my family I am SO STOKED to be back pounding the pavement in NYC and have kick-started the new year by sprucing up with some inspiring people, projects, and places. Even got my tattoo touched up!

Friday, January 14th, I have the privilege in performing in a scene exercise of "The Lion In Winter" with two talented and lovely lifetime members at The Actors Studio under the supervision of Jacqueline Knapp, one of my treasured acting teachers. Could not be more blessed! Even get to wear a princess dress, recycled from my Madrigal Choir days... ;
)

I've got two full weeks of auditions scheduled out there in the "real world" and am feeling so ready to get myself in gear and hit the ground running! Also, on Jan. 18th, I will be starting Improv Comedy 101 class at Upright Citizens Brigade's Training Center. Can't wait to get in touch with my funny bone. There will be a graduation show on Sunday February 13th at 12pm, at 307 2 26th st b/w 8th and 9th ave. Please come check it out!

Also, check out my newly refurbished professional website at www.jeannejoeperrone.com. Thanks to Anna Helenes for superb design! She's a graphic rock-star.

No Place Like New York for the Holidays!

It's been an incredibly amazing, busy season for me! Now follows the info-blast-overload that I have been neglecting for weeks.

This month I signed with new representation - Archer King Ltd., with what looks like the beginnings of a beautiful friendship - and was invited to my first appearance as a finalist at The Actors Studio (brushing up my French accent and getting lots of butterflies in my stomach).

On top of that, I did my first background work, kick-started a comedy group tentatively named "Blood Pasties", and continued developing "Desire In Motion" - an innovative new physical performance piece (www.desireinmotion.weebly.com). I also did my first sketch comedy with Spare Change Theater - whew! Loads of fun.

AND Dec. 3, Occam Repertory Theater's one-act equity showcase I am blessed to participate in is opening: the "Suburban Motel" series by George F. Walker. Would love to see your faces there! Details are listed in this article:

Meanwhile, "Love Me Tender" has continued to show internationally, climbing to 20 festival premieres and winning "Best Short Film" at Mile High Horror Film Festival in Denver, CO. I had the opportunity to attend the closing screening at FirstGlance Festival in Philadelphia along with Director Matthew Morgenthaler and costars Max Rueben and Ben Levin and we had a blast! Literally ate our way through Philly. At FirstGlance, "Love Me Tender" won the award for "Best Cinematography." I am so jazzed at how well this film is doing, it's truly a great piece of work and I am honored to be a part of it. Check it out at www.lovemetenderfilm.com

Back at the ranch, we had a fabulous Thanksgiving. I got to be the one who brings the wine - one of my favorite jobs - and the Christmas music has been playing non-stop ever since. Truly, so much to be thankful for as I am overwhelmed with amazing new projects, roles, friends, neighbors and coworkers. Not so starving for a starving artist. Right now all I can see is fullness.

If You Can't Join 'Em, Beat 'Em!

Sometimes it can be frustrating on the audition circuit, desperately trying to win parts you're not even sure you want to perform, finding yourself reading for the "robot prostitute" and wondering if soft-core porn might actually not be such a bad option bad after all....

But instead of succumbing to this cycle, I've decided to mix it up.

I've been so inspired by watching my fellow artists go out there and produce their own work that I decided to give it a shot myself! "Exhibit Us: Desire in Motion" is a one-hour show composed of storytelling vignettes that use movement, music, text and dance to express the most precious desires of the artists creating them. It's a collaborative performance piece that has grown out of much of the training done at The Actors Studio Drama School, mixing genres and non-linear expression to find a more universal language, unleash the the power of desire, and give us artists a way to express ourselves!

Right now we are in the process of finding a space and nailing down a date/time. It's going to be an exciting journey and I can't wait to see what happens. We already have an incredible team of people involved and every day more express interest.

More coming soon!
